The reunion of those from the Doctor Who franchise is always an exciting moment, but while the one I’ve waited so patiently for is confirmed to be happening, it’s set to unfold away from the long-running British sci-fi show. Some of the best Doctor Who companions and other friends are used very sparingly, and that is certainly the case with one of the show’s stars who is set to reunite with a fellow Doctor Who actor. Regardless, I’m still excited to see them collaborate again after so long apart.
Few actors who have played the Doctor go on to maintain the same level of fame in other projects. However, some do continue their success streak. The actor who played my favorite version of the Time Lord is the other star geared to appear alongside his former Doctor Who castmate – but this time in another franchise completely. It should be a thrilling experience, even if it’s not exactly what I wanted.
David Tennant & Ingrid Oliver Will Both Appear In Netflix’s Thursday Murder Club Movie
Oliver Played Osgood Four Times In Doctor Who
Tenth Doctor actor David Tennant will star alongside Ingrid Oliver in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Richard Osman’s novel, The Thursday Murder Club. Oliver has had four appearances as Osgood in Doctor Who, the first of which came in 2013 50th anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor.” During the episode, Oliver’s character meets three versions of the Doctor: David Tennant’s Tenth, Matt Smith’s Eleventh, and John Hurt’s War Doctor.
I think Capaldi has a great dynamic with Oliver in Doctor Who , but I’d like to see more of Ten with Osgood.
So, Tennant’s shared status as a member of the Thursday Murder Club cast alongside Oliver will be the first time they’ve appeared together since the 2013 Doctor Who special. I loved Ingrid Oliver’s three reprisals of her role as Osgood after “The Day of the Doctor,” but all were with Peter Capaldi leading the show as the Twelfth Doctor. Therefore, while the Doctor did have further encounters with Oliver’s character, it wasn’t Ten who interacted with her.
Thursday Murder Club Is The Closest We’ll Get To A Tenth Doctor & Osgood Reunion
It’d Be Very Difficult To Bring Ten & Osgood Back Together
It’s unlikely I’ll get to see Ten interact with Osgood again. Tennant has already returned to the role of the Tenth Doctor in 2013 but also moved on to also earn the title of Fourteenth Doctor in Doctor Who‘s 60th anniversary special. Showrunner Russell T Davies has made it clear that, although Fourteen survived the bi-generation twist in “The Giggle,” he won’t be coming back to the show. So, even if Osgood were to somehow show up in Doctor Who‘s Disney era, Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth or a future iteration would likely be the Doctor that Oliver’s character would meet.
