Emmerdale’s Ella Forster left shocked by upsetting baby news

Ella Forster has received tragic news that she’s lost her baby in Emmerdale.

Tuesday’s (July 30) episode culminated with Ella learning she’d had a silent miscarriage, also known as an anembryonic pregnancy, mere weeks after finding out she was pregnant.

Things continued to be tense between Ella and the baby’s father, Liam Cavanagh, early in the episode, as she was still resisting him attending the next baby scan.

Some unexpected transport issues paved the way for Liam to attend the screening with Ella, with both becoming alarmed when the technician noticed something was wrong.

The technician was confused because there was no foetus on the scan, causing Liam to fly off the handle and accuse Ella of lying all along about being pregnant.

“Ella, you’re not pregnant and you never were,” Liam snapped. “That’s why you didn’t want me to tag along. It makes perfect sense now.”

Ella was doubly devastated because, on top of this tragic medical news, Liam still did not trust her because of her dark backstory.

Liam stormed out before Ella could even process what she’d been told. Back in the village, Paddy tried to be supportive when Liam suggested Ella had sunk to her lowest.

“She’s unhinged, Paddy,” Liam claimed.

However, viewers would eventually learn Ella had not been lying about her pregnancy. During a consultation with Manpreet, Ella was told she’d suffered a silent miscarriage — also known as a blighted ovum or anembryonic pregnancy.

“There’s nothing you could have done,” Manpreet assured a distraught Ella.

Ella learned there was a real foetus, but it never developed beyond its embryonic stage. She broke down as Manpreet assured her she was “definitely pregnant” at one point.

Will Liam realise he’s got the situation all wrong?
